NOTICE OF BOARD MEMBER VACANCY
SOMERVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Somerville Board of Education is seeking a qualified local resident to fill a vacancy on the Board.
Any Somerville resident interested in applying for the position should send a letter expressing interest, and a resume outlining their qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve on the Board. The letter and resume should be submitted to Bryan P. Boyce, Board Secretary, Somerville Board of Education,
Letter of interest and resume must be received no later than 3:00 PM on May 29, 2026.
Legal Requirements
To be considered for the position, an applicant must meet the following legal requirements pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1:
Be a United States citizen;
Be a resident of the district for at least one year at the time of election or appointment;
Be able to read and write;
Be registered to vote in the district;
Not be disqualified as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1;
Not have been convicted of any of the crimes or offenses enumerated in N.J.S.A. 18A;12-1 or conspiracy to commit or attempt to commit any of said crimes;
Not be the mayor or a member of the governing body of the municipality;
Not have a direct or indirect contract with or claim against the board.
Within 30 days of election or appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the Department of Education.
