March was a memorable month across Somerville Public Schools, filled with outstanding performances, creative expression, and meaningful community engagement.
At Somerville High School, students delivered a remarkable production of Anything Goes, bringing classic Broadway energy, humor, and charm to the stage. Set aboard the S.S. American, the story followed Billy Crocker, played by Jack Kern ā27, as he stows away in pursuit of Hope Harcourt, played by Emma March ā26. Along the way, audiences were entertained by the talents of Carly Giuliano ā28 as Reno Sweeney, Aaron Fodor ā26 as Moonface Martin, and Delaney Ramsden ā26 as Bonnie.
The production also highlighted the dedication of student crews and musicians, including senior lights operator Jenna Cox, senior stage manager Emily Smith, and the lively Pit Orchestra. With dynamic choreography, vibrant costumes, and strong performances throughout, the show was a true success for the school community.

Somerville Middle School also took the stage this month with a successful production of Seussical Jr., showcasing the creativity, enthusiasm, and talent of our middle school performers. The show brought beloved Dr. Seuss characters to life through colorful storytelling, energetic musical numbers, and a strong sense of collaboration among students and staff. It was a joyful and well-executed performance that highlighted the growing performing arts program at SMS.

We also celebrated our students' musical talents at Showcase of the Arts 2026, held on Thursday, March 19. The evening featured both instrumental and choral ensembles, with the choir concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. and showcasing all five choirs: Concert Choir, Chorale, A Cappella Choir, Chamber Choir, and Tenor-Bass Choir. Students performed a wide range of selections, from familiar favorites such as āBig Yellow Taxiā by Joni Mitchell and āHallelujahā by Leonard Cohen to innovative choral works featuring body percussion, including āStormā by James DesJardins and āJAMā by Tracy Wong.

At VDV, Read Across America Week brought special guest readers into classrooms to share favorite stories with students. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the week such a positive and engaging experience. VDV also hosted its Variety Show, which showcased the creativity, confidence, and talent of our students. It was a joyful event and a wonderful celebration for all involved.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community members for making March such a successful and inspiring month at Somerville Public Schools!
