Educators of the Year Announcement 2022

Each year school districts from around the state, including the Somerville School District, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education, recognizes the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of educators in our schools through a program called the Governor’s Educator Of the Year.  As a result, schools are asked to select a Teacher of the Year and an Educational Services Professional of the Year such as counselor, school psychologist, athletic trainer, or instructional assistant to name a few. These individuals must be exceptionally skilled educators who motivate and inspire you, our students, and who build strong cultures of respect and success within our community.

In Somerville High School’s efforts to select those individuals, we put out a call for nominations to our staff, parents, and our student body.  As a result, we received several nominations and conducted a selection committee meeting to select a Teacher of the Year and an Educational Services Professional of the Year.  That meeting was held last week - so I’m thrilled to finally be able to make this very special announcement.

It is now my privilege and honor to announce Somerville High School’s Governor’s Educators of the Year:

Educational Services Professional of the Year:  SHS Athletic Trainer - Ms.  Ami Opalski

Teacher of the Year:  SHS Teacher of Spanish - Ms. Lindsay Lockwood

Thank you both for all that you do for our entire school community!  We are very fortunate to have you here with us at the Ville.
